Pwing Updates- Dawn of A New Era

Hello all,

Many of y’all know me as the relatively new owner. I would like to let you all know This week marks the week of updates. Right now I’m finishing up the host transfer to eliminate the “unable to send chat message” bug. This host transfer should rectify that.

I also have reset skyblock and made it more stable and much more complete one could say. I will post a full reset log and notes this week but I most certainly would recommend trying it out.

Also Post this maintenance we have a lobby server for y’all to chillax in if afk. 😛

Sincerely your Friendly neighborhood Overlord,

Pwing – Change of Ownership

Hello all,

I know this may come as a bit of a surprise to pretty much most all of you, but over the course of the next few days, I will be stepping down as owner of Pwing. This was a tough decision, but ultimately it’s for the better of the server and due to a lack of time on my end. So a bit of a backstory to all of this: some of you who were active during the earlier months of my ownership might have remembered the short period that we introduced Minecraft: Bedrock Edition support to the server. It unfortunately lasted no longer than a few days, but it got my interested more in the Bedrock side of things, but anything I ever did relating to Bedrock was private work. Fast forward a year later, I decided to start a project similar to the tool we used on Pwing back in 2018 for Bedrock support, which I called Geyser.

Considering the extent Geyser went to, it took a while before we got everything functional. This was a project that I worked on off and on since July of 2019, and it gradually it started pulling in more people and more contributors. Within the past month or two, it’s reached the point where full survival gameplay through Bedrock on Java servers is nearly possible, and in terms of popularity, Geyser exploded (currently it’s in the top #1 and #2 of the yearly posts on the admincraft reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/top/?t=all, and has been used on servers where up to 1.2k bedrock players were joined through many instances of it concurrently).

Now, to how this comes back to me deciding to step down from owner. About a month ago, I was approached by CubeCraft Games, one of the most popular Minecraft servers across the whole community (Bedrock included). They reached out to me offering me a job working there as a server engine developer. I took some time to think about this, and decided to take the job. To make some things clear, this isn’t the sole reason I’m deciding to step down as owner. As many of you may have noticed, my activity on the server over the past few months has been quite a bit less than what it was previously, and that in part has been due to me becoming more involved in Geyser, but also me focusing on other interests. Overall, more than anything this has brought awareness to me about that, and ultimately with that being said, I’ve found I don’t have the time and motivation anymore to continue working as much as I do on the server. I’ve really enjoyed working on Pwing, and it’s definitely been loads of fun being able to work on new content, meet new people, and reflecting back on it now, it’s been a great learning experience.

Going forward, I will be continuing on Pwing as an administrator and finder17 will be taking over as the owner. My main focus will be on backend content, such as maintaining our plugins, updating the server, and making sure the server is performing well. You will probably not see me on a whole lot, but I will still be active in Discord and online when I’m needed.

The server will go down for about 24 – 36 hours so we can transition over everything. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

TL;DR: I’m stepping down from owner due to me taking another job, not having as much time anymore, and wanting to focus on other interests. I will not be going away, just won’t be near as active.

It’s been a great journey and lots of fun owning the server. If you want to keep up with me, I plan on sticking around in the Pwing Discord and being active there.
