Pwing – Change of Ownership

Hello all,

I know this may come as a bit of a surprise to pretty much most all of you, but over the course of the next few days, I will be stepping down as owner of Pwing. This was a tough decision, but ultimately it’s for the better of the server and due to a lack of time on my end. So a bit of a backstory to all of this: some of you who were active during the earlier months of my ownership might have remembered the short period that we introduced Minecraft: Bedrock Edition support to the server. It unfortunately lasted no longer than a few days, but it got my interested more in the Bedrock side of things, but anything I ever did relating to Bedrock was private work. Fast forward a year later, I decided to start a project similar to the tool we used on Pwing back in 2018 for Bedrock support, which I called Geyser.

Considering the extent Geyser went to, it took a while before we got everything functional. This was a project that I worked on off and on since July of 2019, and it gradually it started pulling in more people and more contributors. Within the past month or two, it’s reached the point where full survival gameplay through Bedrock on Java servers is nearly possible, and in terms of popularity, Geyser exploded (currently it’s in the top #1 and #2 of the yearly posts on the admincraft reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/top/?t=all, and has been used on servers where up to 1.2k bedrock players were joined through many instances of it concurrently).

Now, to how this comes back to me deciding to step down from owner. About a month ago, I was approached by CubeCraft Games, one of the most popular Minecraft servers across the whole community (Bedrock included). They reached out to me offering me a job working there as a server engine developer. I took some time to think about this, and decided to take the job. To make some things clear, this isn’t the sole reason I’m deciding to step down as owner. As many of you may have noticed, my activity on the server over the past few months has been quite a bit less than what it was previously, and that in part has been due to me becoming more involved in Geyser, but also me focusing on other interests. Overall, more than anything this has brought awareness to me about that, and ultimately with that being said, I’ve found I don’t have the time and motivation anymore to continue working as much as I do on the server. I’ve really enjoyed working on Pwing, and it’s definitely been loads of fun being able to work on new content, meet new people, and reflecting back on it now, it’s been a great learning experience.

Going forward, I will be continuing on Pwing as an administrator and finder17 will be taking over as the owner. My main focus will be on backend content, such as maintaining our plugins, updating the server, and making sure the server is performing well. You will probably not see me on a whole lot, but I will still be active in Discord and online when I’m needed.

The server will go down for about 24 – 36 hours so we can transition over everything. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience.

TL;DR: I’m stepping down from owner due to me taking another job, not having as much time anymore, and wanting to focus on other interests. I will not be going away, just won’t be near as active.

It’s been a great journey and lots of fun owning the server. If you want to keep up with me, I plan on sticking around in the Pwing Discord and being active there.

Pwing – New Updates and the Future of the Server

Hi all,

It’s been a long time since an announcement has been made on this website (and hopefully the last on this website software), but I just want to take some time and address our plans for the future with Pwing and what updates we intend to introduce as well as how we intend to bring up the player count again.

Starting off, it’s obvious the server has not had an active flow of players. It’s had some ups and downs (more downs than ups), and to confirm, we are aware of this decline and have actively been working behind the scenes to wrap up the one update that has been holding us back for some time, the introduction of the race overhaul.

Races

Races is an update that started back in 2018, more as a side project while the new dungeon was being worked on. It started off as a simple plugin that was originally just going to introduce an update to the current races system with a few added twists and features, but as time went on, we realized the potential of this project and the plugin became so much more versatile. On the upside to this, we expanded the idea of the races update and it became a much larger project (and was actually released as a premium plugin, that anyone can purchase), but on the downside, once it became the main priority, it further delayed the development of the server as a whole.

Despite us expecting to release this in January of 2020, it never happened due to other setbacks and other events that occurred that we had no control over. However, the update is now finished, take for a few minor bugs that are being resolved. We expect to have the beta out on Saturday, March 21st, 2020. The server will go down for approximately three hours starting at 12:00pm EST.

Boss Updates

As the races update will inevitably change up quite a bit on the server and allow for players to become even more powerful, over the next few weeks we intend to overhaul most of the endgame bosses (most notably the Delphi ones, Solaris, and Abyss) to better accommodate these changes, and just in general update the bosses, because as we all know, they aren’t erm… the best.

Content Creator Applications

Recently, we introduced a new staff rank to Pwing, the content creator rank. Content creators mostly work mostly behind the scenes and work on creating new items, bosses, new storylines/sidequests, and have experience with working with various aspects of Minecraft servers. If you’re less experienced in building or programming and feel like you could contribute to the server in this area, feel free to take a look at the application for more details and perhaps apply if you think you’re fit for the job.

1.15 Update

Pwing for the past year has been stuck on 1.13 due to the behemoth of 1.14 and the mess of performance problems it brought. 1.15 thankfully is more graceful on performance, however it’s still not at the level of 1.13, but is manageable. On another note, we have found a new host for Pwing, which should be capable of running Pwing much better than our current host does on 1.13. This should also help resolve many lag problems. Shortly after the release of races, we intend to do a public stress-test on this new host to see how well it’ll handle the server. More information will be released then.

New Website

Within the next month or two, we intend to deploy a new site that will soon replace this current website. It will very much feature the same things, but have a much more updated design and be a lot more user friendly. We’ll post all announcements here and integrate it more into Discord as well as Minecraft itself so it has more of a purpose. Further out, we intend to implement some kind of statistics system and player system so player info (like money, race, race level, etc.) can be displayed there. We may also decide to introduce some kind of rewards system.

Conclusion

All in all, this wraps up most of our plans for the future and what all we intend to introduce to the server in the coming months. Though it may not seem like a whole lot, we also intend to revisit some other parts of the server, such as dungeon storylines and spells, and revamp them too. Hope you all are excited!

Pwing – Skyblock Opening [OPEN-BETA]

Yes, it’s back and better than before! Skyblock is officially back on Pwing for an open-beta phase with a load of new features and a whole lot of fun new additions ranging from custom bosses to levelable furnaces! Skyblock has lot to offer and if you’re just getting a lil’ burnt out of Pwing, give Skyblock a shot.

Here is a little teaser on upgrading your furnace (left-click):

Aside from all of that, I know lots of you guys probably have a lot of questions. I’ll list the most notable one below, but if you guys have any, please feel free to ask them in the #questions section of our Discord or reply to this thread.

Q: How do I join?

You can simply join the Pwing Skyblock by logging out, and adding a new server with skyblock.pwing.net as the primary IP address. You will be able to join it with a simple /server skyblock command shortly.

Q: Will my items and ranks transfer over from Pwing?

Your items will remain exclusive to one server. Skyblock items are Skyblock items, Pwing items are Pwing items. However, your rank will transfer over and you will receive perks on the Skyblock server as well. The perks are not exactly as they are on Pwing, but you will retain your rank/prefix on both servers.

However, Skyblock does have its own store for Skyblock-exclusive perks and features. You can purchase them here: http://pwingblock.buycraft.net.

Q: Can I apply for staff on Skyblock?

Currently applications for staff on Skyblock are not yet open. We’d like you guys to become familiar with it before attempting to apply for staff. But within the coming weeks we will allow applications.

Q: You said there were custom features… what are they?

Currently we have a wiki set up to help everyone become familiar with these new additions and features to Skyblock. It’s still a work in progress and any contributions are appreciated. Here is the link: https://pwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Pwiki_Wiki.

Q: Because of Skyblock, does that mean Pwing won’t be updated as often?

Nope, we have a Skyblock team that works on Skyblock full time and a team that works on Pwing. You may notice that some people are staff on one server and not the other, or their rank is entirely different on the other. Personally I only administrate this server while finder17 is the core content creator or the “owner” of this specific server.

Hope you guys are excited for this! Just remember, Skyblock is still in OPEN BETA, so there are expected bugs. If you find any, please report them in the #bug-reports section on the Pwing Discord.
